Frigid Flash Ropes Competition
Frigid Flash is Alaska Rock Gym’s annual ropes comp—a favorite spring tradition for our climbing community. It’s a full day of lead and top rope action, built for climbers of all levels to push their limits and have a blast in the process.
Whether you’re back for another year tackling the hardest climbs in the Open category, or dipping your toes into competition for the first time with Novice, Frigid Flash is your chance to test your endurance and route-reading on a fresh lineup of comp routes. The format is modified redpoint, meaning you start from the bottom each attempt, and try to accrue as many points as possible in the given timeframe.
Expect good vibes, awesome sponsored prizes, and a whole lot of stoke!
Frigid Flash is happening March 20th and 21st, 2026.
Whether you’re new to roped comps or a seasoned crusher, there’s a category for you.
Adult: Novice | 5.10 and up, Intermediate | 5.11 and up, Advanced | 5.11+ and up, Open | 5.12- and up
Youth: Novice | 5.9 and up, Intermediate | 5.10+ and up, Advanced | 5.11+ and up
All grade ranges are approximate and correspond to climbers’ flash grade.
Adult Open and Advanced climbers must hold a valid Alaska Rock Gym lead climbing certification to compete.
Once you’re done climbing, treat yourself to a Broken Tooth brew, and our evening raffle. No climbing is allowed after consuming alcohol, so sip only when you’re finished sending.
