Rules & Supervision

General Rules

Everyone must check in and have a current waiver on file.

Orientation is required before climbing, bouldering or belaying.

Only UIAA-approved gear is allowed and must be used as the manufacturer intended.

Climb safely. Always be on belay if you’re off the ground in the roped area.

No street shoes, food or drinks on padded surfaces.

No horseplay, yelling, or roughhousing. Keep it respectful and safe for all.

Roped Climbing

All belayers are required to hold an Alaska Rock Gym top rope belay certification.

Both lead climbers and lead belayers must hold an Alaska Rock Gym lead climbing certification.

Personal lead ropes must be dynamic, UIAA-certified, between 9.4 and 10.2mm and 40m+ in length.

Climbers must self-inspect their personal equipment. ARG staff is not responsible for equipment inspections.

Bouldering Rules

Orientation is required before using the bouldering area.

Falling is part of climbing. Be mindful of others.

No topping out or climbing on/behind walls.

Keep all gear and beverages off pads.

No children under 10 in the bouldering area except during youth bouldering hours.

Youth Supervision

All belayers are required to hold an Alaska Rock Gym top rope belay certification.

Both lead climbers and lead belayers must hold an Alaska Rock Gym lead climbing certification.

Personal lead ropes must be dynamic, UIAA-certified, between 9.4 and 10.2mm and 40m+ in length.

Climbers must self-inspect their personal equipment. ARG staff is not responsible for equipment inspections.

  • All kids under 14 must be directly supervised by an engaged adult.
  • Ages 10–13: Must be within sight in the bouldering area and supervised when using auto belays.
  • Ages 9 & under: Supervised at all times by a non-climbing adult. Not allowed in the bouldering area except during:
    • Youth Bouldering Hours
      • Wed & Sat: 9:30am–12:00pm
      • Sun: 1:00pm–6:00pm
  • One adult may supervise up to 5 kids (ages 10–13) or 3 kids (ages 9 & under).

Infants & Toddlers

  • Infants in carriers must stay on hard flooring, within sight.
  • Crawling/moving infants must be within arm’s reach and off all padded areas.
  • Toddlers must be supervised at all times and can only be on pads if actively climbing with an adult.
  • If crying or behavior disrupts others, please step away with your child.
