Whether you’re back for another year tackling the hardest climbs in the Open category, or dipping your toes into competition for the first time with Novice, Frigid Flash is your chance to test your endurance and route-reading on a fresh lineup of comp routes.

The format is tiered redpoint, meaning you start from the bottom each attempt, and try to accrue as many points as possible in the given timeframe. Whether you’re new to roped comps or a seasoned crusher, there’s a category for you.

Scoring System
⚡︎ There are four difficulty ranges of climbs from One Star (★, easiest) to Four Stars (★★★★, hardest).
⚡︎ Each route will have multiple marked zone holds with an associated score. The amount of points will increase with each zone as you progress up the wall.
⚡︎ The scored hold for each zone must be reached and “controlled” before the points for that zone may be awarded.

⚡︎ The points scored in the zones are NOT cumulative. Record the number shown for the last zone you controlled.

Scorecards
⚡︎ Climbers can climb problems in any difficulty range for their gender/age category, with the exception of climbs on Lead Only anchors.

⚡︎ If you can climb something, it will be on your scorecard.
⚡︎ Your final result will be the sum of your top five (5) scores.

⚡︎ Each box to the right of the route represents an attempt. Record the zone score for each attempt on that route.
⚡︎ Each attempt before reaching your final high point will result in a deduction of .1 points.

⚡︎ Make sure every attempt is recorded, even if that attempt is zero.

Climbing
Rules
⚡︎ Routes are one color from bottom to top. You must stay on route.

⚡︎ To start a route, you can use any holds of the corresponding color reachable from the ground.

⚡︎ All volumes, dihedrals, and aretes are “on” for hands and feet.
⚡︎ Do not use wall hardware (bolts or quickdraws) to make upward progress. T-nuts in the wall are similarly off; do not use them.

⚡︎ To score points, a climber must “control” the placarded, scored hold within the zone.

⚡︎ All attempts must begin at the start. After falling, the turn ends and the next climber may begin climbing.
⚡︎Controlling a hold is defined by changing direction or stopping momentum with the use-able surface of the hold.

⚡︎ Hitting the hold as you fall does not count as control, nor does touching the part of the hold that is not use-able surface.

⚡︎ Top rope climbers must establish on the indicated finish hold to finish the route and receive full points.

⚡︎For lead climbers, the anchor can be clipped from any hold on the route, but they must establish on the indicated finish hold AND clip the lead anchor for the full points.
