Youth Programs Head Coach

Role Description
As a Head Coach for Alaska Rock Gym, you will be responsible for teaching youth the technical skills of climbing, but also help develop children as individuals. To align with ARG’s youth goals, we encourage our participants to work as a team, and have supportive behaviors towards peers and other climbers, have welcoming attitudes, a teachable mentality, and general stoke for climbing.
– Each Head Coach oversees a program or age group. They are responsible for weekly lesson planning to help progress their group in climbing skills and activities. The Head Coach will work closely with the Assistant Youth Programs Director to achieve quarterly youth programs goals.
– A primary part of this role will be to facilitate appropriate kid management while managing a small team of coaches. Transition times, organizations, and excellent communication with the other Head Coaches will be a crucial part of this role.
– Head Coaches are responsible for Lead Coaches and Assistant Coaches during daily and weekly lessons. The Head Coach is the first point of contact for their Leads to come to for questions or guidance and will instruct them on what the goals are for the day. With the support of the Assistant Youth Programs Director, the Head Coach will facilitate bi-annual reviews for their staff.
– ARG strives to provide quality coaching for all kids in Youth Programs. The ability to confidently communicate the growth opportunities and/or areas for improvement for children to their parents is of high importance. Head Coaches are trained to spearhead the progression of youth climbers through the Youth Programs (recreationally or competitively).
