KIDS CLIMB
The Alaska Rock Gym has climbing programs for all ages & skill levels!
ARG Youth Programs provide a fun, challenging, active, and supportive atmosphere for both new and returning climbers. Our curriculum ranges from Foundational Skill development to competitive climbing training.
Foundations is a prepaid, eight or nine week session. All teams — Recreational Team, Training Team and Competition Team — are set up as autopay, recurring memberships.
- Foundations [K-8th] — An entry-level program where climbers learn necessary climbing skills, including proper bouldering falls, basic rope commands, lowering practices, and how to exist in a gym-climbing environment. Upon completion of a Foundations Skills Card, climbers will be invited to Recreational Team. In the case that climbers do not complete a Skills Card, this course may be repeated as many times as desired.
- Foundations is a prepaid, eight or nine week session.
- Recreational Team [K-12th] — Rec Team provides a fun, training environment for youth to improve their climbing skills and requires a completed Foundations session and Skills Card as a prerequisite. These teams are designed for climbers willing to commit one-two days a week to better their climbing and social skills in a non-competitive format.
- Rec Team is set up as an autopay EFT membership. Climbers may freeze for up to two months without losing their registration status on the team.
- This membership may be cancelled or converted to a Youth Individual Autopay Membership at any time via the completion of a Membership Change Request Form. Spaces will not be held and there may be a wait list should the climber wish to rejoin Rec Team.
- Training Team [6th-12th] — The goal of Training Team is to develop advanced movement, strength and fitness, and a team-mindset to prepare climbers for more rigorous training and competition, while fostering a growth-oriented attitude. The team will prepare for local and USA Climbing qualifying competitions, but members are not required to compete.
- Climbers must commit per season — USA Climbing Boulder season runs from August-January and Ropes season runs from February-June.

Shorter-term Climbing Options:
Not the commitment type? Our Camps and Private Lessons provide short-term climbing options for all skill levels!
Climbing Camps
- Camps are hosted during Spring Break, Summer Break, and Holiday Breaks and operate in two or three-day sessions. Climbers can choose between morning and afternoon camps, and spend their time learning climbing technique, playing fun games and socializing with other youth athletes.
Private Lessons
- Private lessons are single-coach, 1 hour sessions with the option for one or two climbers. This low student to instructor ratio allows coaches to take a few minutes to chat with parent and child about goals for the lesson before your child starts their climb. Want to learn more about our instructors’ specialties? Check out their bios and our Private Lessons calendar.
