We are looking for a yoga instructor who can work Sundays!
Role Description
Yoga Instructors are expected to teach 1+ class(es) per week. ARG yoga instruction is given in a welcoming environment for an all levels class (unless otherwise advertised). Our instructors are required to be a minimum of RYT200 with Yoga Alliance. Understanding the use of props is required.
Alaska Rock Gym caters to asana and prana yoga styles. Instructors should be excited and able to teach to a higher energy demographic. Creativity with exploring yoga classes that transfer outside of the yoga room is a plus! Examples could be a ski fit yoga class or something that aligns with the climbing or outdoor community. Opportunities to teach unique workshops are available and welcomed!
Instructors are expected to follow the Yoga Alliance code of conduct which they agreed to when receiving their Yoga Alliance membership.
As a representative of Alaska Rock Gym, all employees are expected to be knowledgeable about the gym and its offerings, and stoked about the outdoor industry. Our staff lead by example, are kind, welcoming, and eager to pursue growth opportunities. Be viewed as accountable and reliable and contribute to a supportive, team environment.
Job Responsibilities:
Standard Expectations
Scheduling
-Instructors are responsible for the class they have agreed to teach, including finding coverage if they are going to be out of town/unavailable. If a sub is agreed upon for a class, the teacher is responsible for communicating that to the Yoga Lead so the change can be made in the computer.
– Instructors must teach at least once per month to maintain their membership benefits at the gym. (This excludes planned vacations/absences)
– If a teacher misses a class (no call no show, resulting in class cancellation), it goes as a strike in their employment file. If more than one class is missed within a 6 month period it will be an automatic dismissal.
– Subs must be finalized before public signup is available online which is 5 days before the class. If there is a last minute sub needed, the teacher must find coverage and this must be communicated with the Yoga Lead as well as the General Manager.
– Class schedule is adjusted in the spring and the fall. If you agree to teach a class, you are responsible for that class until the next time the schedule is adjusted. If major schedule changes need to be made before then, the teacher must communicate that with the Yoga Lead and have it approved.
Communication
– Communication with the team in the yoga chat is required. If a fellow teacher is looking for a sub but you are not available, acknowledging the message and informing the team of your unavailability is required. If a teacher picks up a shift, confirmation for both the teacher and the sub must occur. Acknowledgement from the Yoga Lead will then happen when they have changed the listing in the computer system.
– Must attend biannual department meetings when the schedule is reviewed and finalized for the coming season.
As a representative of Alaska Rock Gym, all employees are expected to be
knowledgeable about the gym and its offerings, and enthusiastic about the outdoor and climbing
community. Our staff lead by example and are kind, welcoming, and eager to pursue growth
opportunities. Employees are expected to be accountable, reliable, and contribute to a
supportive team environment.
Benefits include a free monthly gym membership, unlimited buddy passes, company
profit sharing, simple IRA eligibility, and access to industry pro-deals for major outdoor brands
(up to 60% off).
