Frequently Asked Questions
- 1. What is the minimum or maximum age?
Kids must be 6 years old to participate in climbing programs at the Alaska Rock Gym, and all youth programs are designed to accommodate young people through high school.
- 2. My kid is shy and wary of group activities. Is this right for him?
While all kids seem to enjoy climbing and participation in our classes, sometimes it is the more reserved children who find that climbing is the activity that opens the door to engaging in the physical challenges of sport. The combination of problem solving and planned movement, along with the personal satisfaction of successfully completing a route or problem is very appealing to these kids.
- 3. I home school my children – is there a kids’ program held earlier in the day?
Yes! Our home school program offers a structured activity class in which students can earn PE credits as they climb. Students are taught climbing movement and technique, and work on strength, flexibility and endurance – all while socializing with other home schooled kids. Classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1-3pm, and can accommodate kids from six to seventeen. Most charter and home school programs accept credits for KlingOn Kids and Youth Program attendance, as well. Classes begin in September and run through May.
- 4. My kids are growing so fast! Do I have to buy them climbing gear?
All kid and youth programs include climbing gear in the cost of the class. No need to worry about growing out of climbing shoes or losing gear between home, school and the car!
